OECD recommends abolition of mandatory retirement age

The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) has reportedly recommended the abolition of Ireland's mandatory retirement age.

Reports this morning said the body had made the recommendation in a report on how to prevent a looming crisis in Ireland's pension system.

The document also reportedly says Irish workers should be encouraged to work past 65.

This was also recommended in a recent report from the Irish Pensions Board, which suggested that workers could be offered higher state pensions if they agreed to remain in the workforce after retirement age.
