OECD recommends abolition of mandatory retirement age
05/12/2005 - 08:25:23The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) has reportedly recommended the abolition of Ireland's mandatory retirement age.
Reports this morning said the body had made the recommendation in a report on how to prevent a looming crisis in Ireland's pension system.
The document also reportedly says Irish workers should be encouraged to work past 65.
This was also recommended in a recent report from the Irish Pensions Board, which suggested that workers could be offered higher state pensions if they agreed to remain in the workforce after retirement age.
