Number of unemployed people at lowest level in five years
The number of people at work has climbed back above 1.9 million, the highest number in nearly five years.
The Central Statistics Office said its latest quarterly national household survey from April to June puts the unemployment rate at 11.5%, down from 12% in the first quarter.
The number who are long-term unemployed has also fallen from 8.1% to 6.8% in the year to the end of June.
Statistician with the CSO Brian Ring said the unemployment rate was now at its lowest level since 2009.
"The seasonally adjusted rate was down from 12% to 11.5% over the quarter, the lowest rate of seasonally adjusted unemployment recorded since the first quarter of 2009, when it was 10.2%." he said.
He added the number of unemployed people was down 12,700 over the quarter to 247,700 - the lowest since the first quarter of 2009.
