A record number of people are awaiting trial for murder in this country, with most being held in Cloverhill Prison in Dublin.

A report in the Irish Daily Star this morning has revealed that the west Dublin prison is holding the majority of those awaiting trial for murder.

Graham Dwyer, charged with the murder of Elaine O'Hara and Saviero Bellante charged with the murder of Tom O'Gorman in Castleknock are among those waiting for their day in court.

The total of 33 surpasses the last record set at 31 at the end of 2012.
