Norris in Seanad broadside against Irish media

Senator David Norris
Independent Senator David Norris has said he was forced to change his telephone number four times during the presidential campaign because he was hounded by the media.
He made the remarks in the Seanad today during a debate on media standards.
Senator Norris said an inquiry should be held into the behaviour of media outlets in Ireland.
However he said politicans are afraid to take on the fourth estate.
"Particularly when they see what has happened to me," he said in a charged address to the house.
"There is not a newspaper, a radio station or a television station that hasn't vilified me, blackguarded me, defamed me or libelled me," he added.
"And I know that many of you (fellow politicians) are terrified, as are the unfortunate journalists who are bullied in their offices.
"Until the day I die, I will tell the truth."
