Noonan to begin bank debt talks

The Finance Minister is to make fresh efforts to negotiate a deal on our bank debt.

Michael Noonan will begin talks in Europe tonight, amid reports of a delay on a possible deal.

It comes after an October deadline was put on the agreement reached at the leaders summit in June to renegotiate the burden on our bank debt.

Minister Noonan says he hopes to ensure his European colleagues are fully up to date on discussions: "I've had officials in various European capitals over the last 10 days or so.

"They were in Paris, Berlin, Madrid, the Hague and Helsinki, and from the reports I've got back it seems it's not a question of agreeing a debt deal for Ireland, it's a question of how it will be worked out, what the methodology will be."
