Finance Minister Michael Noonan said today that he is happy with the progress being made in trying to secure a deal on the bank debt.
"I don't understand why people are getting so excited at present about it," he said.
"We have two months to go.
"Secondly, negotiations are proceeding, and they're proceeding satisfactorily, and I'm about where I am in the negotiations, where I thought I would be, looking forward from Christmas."
Minister Noonan also said that the promissory note deal and the stability of the coalition are two separate issues.
"I don't put the two issues together at all," he said.
"I don’t see any threat to the Coalition Government.
"I suppose the most difficult thing the Government had to do in the past few months was to get a Budget through, and that went through satisfactorily, and we're on now to other issues.
"The economy is growing again."
