Noonan hopeful ahead of 'tough' negotiations on debt deal

Minister for Finance Michael Noonan said today that he is confident that Ireland will get a deal on its bank debt.
It follows a weekend of uncertainty about a possible deal after German Chancellor Angel Merkel was quoted as saying that there would be no retrospective deal on legacy debt.
Enda Kenny spoke to Angela Merkel by phone yesterday, and in a statement released after yesterday's discussions, both leaders agreed Ireland is "a special case".
Minister Noonan said that although negotiations will be "tough" he's confident a deal will be done.
"I'm confident that there are two parts to the deal and there will be intense negotiation and I'm very hopeful that we'll have a resolution," he said.
"It won't be easy, it'll be tough negotiation,
"I think, at present, a lot of the negotiation will be about the extent of the deal, rather than whether we get a deal or not."
