Noonan hopeful ahead of talks on EU crisis

Finance Minister Michael Noonan said today that signs are more hopeful that world leaders are moving towards a resolution of the EU crisis.
Speaking in Limerick, Minister Noonan said that the leaders of the G8 meeting in the US at the weekend seemed to be responding to demands in the EU for a jobs and growth strategy.
He said the priority now will be to formulate a policy in the short-term to add a growth strategy to the fiscal correction programmes taking place in many countries.
Minister Noonan said that this week's summit of EU leaders will be important in pushing forward this agenda.
"The priority is to formulate policy that they can implement in the short-term to add a jobs and growth strategy to the fiscal correction programmes that are taking place in all the countries now," he said.
"It's not a question of 'either or' - it's a question of both.
"A second programme has to be run in parallel across Europe and I think that'll help very significantly."
