The Finance Minister has announced that the Government will provide a refund of DIRT on savings used to buy a home for first-time buyers from tonight.

The Finance Minister has announced that the Government will provide a refund of DIRT on savings used to buy a home for first-time buyers from tonight.

He said it will be maximum of 20% of the purchase price and will remain until the end of 2017.

Minister Noonan says he expected the bank's to launch new savings products specifically aimed at first-time buyers.

He also announced in the Dáil that he may decide to penalise landowners who do not develop land that is zoned and serviced.
