Noonan: Anglo promissory note deal 'is likely'

The Finance Minister Michael Noonan says a deal on the Anglo promissory note "is likely" by the time the next payment is due.

Michael Noonan is in Brussels again today, where EU Finance Ministers are expected to finalise the details of the new European Banking Supervisor.

He says there are still some "hurdles" to overcome but he believes there will be a deal for Ireland by March.

"I've said on a number of occasions that the political deadline on us is March 31, when the payment is due. I have also said on a number of occasions that it would be very difficult for Ireland to pay the money on that date.

"We're working towards a deal. There is good will but there are some legal hurdles that need to be overcome."
