No sign in search for missing man on Lough Ree

A specialist search and rescue sniffer dog from the North has been brought in to help with the search for a missing man on Lough Ree.

Search efforts continued in Athlone today for 30-year-old Daryl Burke. Nothing has been found so far.

The Co Armagh man was one of three men who were in a boat that sunk on Lough Ree last Thursday.

"The indications from the owner were that the dog did genuinely indicate that there was something down in a particular area … we're going to check that in the morning," said RNLI Lifeboat Operations Manager in Lough Ree, Damien Delaney.

"That group also had scanners- they checked a huge area just around the point, and obviously they didn't find any trace of the boat, or the man, or any debris from the boat."

"So it's a huge mystery - however, we'll keep at it."
