No reports of Irish casualties in Japanese earthquake

The Department of Foreign Affairs is advising people not to travel to areas affected by yesterday's earthquake near Japan.

The Department of Foreign Affairs is advising people not to travel to areas affected by yesterday's earthquake near Japan.

So far there have been no reports of any Irish fatalities in Japan and the Irish Embassy in Tokyo has been making contact with Irish nationals in the affected area.

There are an estimated 2,000 Irish people living in Japan, the majority of whom reside in the greater Tokyo area.

Anyone concerned about family or friends are advised to contact the Department's Crisis Centre at 01 4180233.
