No jail for man who accessed child porn at Dublin hostel

A Romanian man who admitted accessing child pornography at a Dublin hostel has avoided going to jail on condition that he continues to attend counselling.

Iosif Antili (aged 41) of St Ignatius Avenue in Dublin 7 pleaded guilty to two counts of possessing child pornography in December 2010 and January 2011.

Passing sentence at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court, Judge Mary Ellen Ring said while there was no evidence that Antili had distributed any of the pornography, it was not a "victimless crime".

She noted that he has no previous offences and co-operated with Gardaí throughout their investigation.

She sentenced him to two and a half years in prison, but suspended it in full on condition that he continues to attend counselling.
