NI politicians help Iraqi factions reach peace deal
04/09/2007 - 08:06:29Politicians from the North have helped Iraq's Sunni and Shiite factions reach agreement on moves to end the sectarian violence in their country.
The two sides in the internal Iraqi conflict have agreed to consider a series of principles on non-violence following secret discussions in Finland over the weekend.
The North's Deputy First Minister, Martin McGuinness, and DUP MP Jeffrey Donaldson were involved in the initiative, along with representatives from the ANC in South Africa.
The seminar was organised by the former Finnish President Martti Ahtisaari, who also played a role in the Irish peace process.
