A 20-year-old man who was seriously assaulted in Tallaght yesterday has died in hospital.

He was attacked at a pedestrian bridge on St Dominic's Road at about 4 am on New Year's Day, and had been on life support in Beaumont Hospital.

Gardaí have arrested two men, aged 27 and 23, in connection with the assault this afternoon. They are being held at Rathfarnham and Tallaght Garda Stations.

Their arrests follow the violent disorder charges brought against 23-year-old Graham Palmer of Bolbrook Grove and 20-year-old Aisling Burke of Homelawn Road earlier today.

Meanwhile, a fifth person arrested late last night still remains in Garda custody.
