New tourism charter aimed at quelling ash cloud fears
A new Customer Care Charter is to be drawn up to encourage tourists to visit Ireland - despite the volcanic ash cloud.
The decision was taken during talks between the Tourism Minister Mary Hanafin and industry representatives today at which the costs from the travel restrictions was discussed.
It is estimated the disruption is costing the sector up to €10m a day.
Officials from Failte Ireland, the Irish Tourist Industry Confederation and the Irish Hotels Federation amongst others attended the meeting.
Minister Hanafin said the voluntary code will be used to reassure tourists that Ireland is still open for business.
Niall Gibbons, Chief Executive of Tourism Ireland, said: “Tourism Ireland will commit additional investment in marketing, to strengthen our partnership with tour operators overseas.
"We will be increasing our support for Irish industry partners, including inbound tour operators, and will meet with them over the coming days to work out the detail of that support."
