New poll shows drop in support for Labour

There is a drop in support for Labour in a new opinion poll despite a massive rise for the party in another survey just two days ago.

The RED C poll for tomorrow's Sunday Business Post shows Fianna Fáil unchanged, while the Greens, Sinn Féin and Independents gain.

In this poll Labour is on 23%, a drop of four points since the last RED C survey in June, and 12 points behind where they were in the Millward Browne Lansdowne Survey 48 hours ago.

The party also drops to third place behind Fianna Fáil who stay unchanged on 24%, despite a summer of bad publicity on the banks and markets, and the Taoiseach Brian Cowen's interview last week.

Fine Gael can celebrate being in first place, but the party has dropped support over the summer - down 2 to 31%.

The Greens go up 1% to 3%, Sinn Fein climb 2% to 10% and Independents go up 3% to 9%.

Almost two thirds of voters say they don't have confidence in Brian Cowen as Taoiseach, while almost a third of all voters say they would be more likely to vote Fianna Fáil with a different leader.
