New poll puts FF and FG neck-and-neck; brings good news for Brendan Howlin

A new poll in today's Sunday Business Post indicates the Government is still facing an uphill battle to win over the electorate.

The Red C Survey shows Fine Gael went down by one point and Fianna Fáil went up by one - meaning the parties are now tied with an approval rating of 26% apiece.

It also shows that the Independent Alliance, which has four Ministers, dropped by one point to 4%.

The poll shows an increase in support for Labour under new leader Brendan Howlin, with the party up by 2% since the last poll was taken in mid-March, bringing the party to 6%.

Political Editor with the Sunday Business Post Michael Brennan said it was still too early to call whether the Government will last the course.

He said: "It's a good result for Brendan Howlin...He's still facing an enormous challenge…but some fences appear to have been mended since the very bitter despite with Alan Kelly, who returned to the fray last week, helping his parliamentary party in various ways.

"People are still not giving great odds on this government lasting beyond two years."
