New insolvency service 'too expensive'

An Oireachtas committee has been told that Ireland's new insolvency service is too expensive for struggling homeowners.

The Irish Mortgage Holders Organisation says some borrowers are more than doubling their debts because of the costs of dealing with the service.

Director David Hall has told the Oireachtas finance committee that the Government needs to urgently examine the costs of entering the new insolvency system.

He says courts are now being held up in disputes over whether struggling customers can actually pay.
