New Bill would see corrupt TDs expelled from Dáil

The Government has published new legislation that would see TDs found to have been corrupt expelled from the Dáil.
The provision, outlined in the revised Criminal Justice Bill, would also apply to civil servants and would bar them from seeking public office for 10 years.
The Bill enhances the DPP's ability to bring prosecutions where a public office holder is presumed to be corrupt because they appear to have a lifestyle out of proportion to their official income.
The Bill comes on foot of the recommendations of the Mahon Tribunal report into planning corruption.
