New agency to focus on increasing consumer awareness

The Government's new National Consumer Agency has reportedly decided to focus its initial energies on increasing awareness of consumer rights.

Reports this morning said the agency believed the general public were largely unaware of their rights when it came to buying goods and services.

The reports said the body, which held its first full meeting in Dublin yesterday, was planning to focus on providing information in this area as one of its priorities for the current year.

The NCA was established by Minister for Enterprise Micheál Martin earlier this year and will replace the Office of the Director of Consumer Affairs.
