Latest: Fire safety audit to be carried out following Inchicore fire
: A fire safety audit will be carried out at a flat complex in Inchicore in Dublin following a blaze in which a family was injured, two critically.
A mother and her three children were rushed to hospital following the suspicious blaze at Tyrone Place on Monday night.
It’s emerged neighbours had to cut open locked gates to help them get out.
Dublin City Council is reassuring residents the complex is safe.
Peter Finnegan, area manager for Dublin South Central, said:
"There may be a bigger issue to look at how we gradually over time replace housing stock that belong to an era. It's safe and it's in good use at the moment but maybe we need to update it in terms of design features."
A neighbour climbed a ladder and cut through iron bars to help rescue a family from a fire in Dublin.
A woman in her 30s, named locally as Maggie Greene, and her eight-year-old son are critical following the blaze in Inchicore on Monday night.
Two other siblings, a seven-year-old girl and 13-year-old boy, were injured but one has since been discharged from hospital.
The fire is now being treated as suspicious, according to investigating Gardaí.
The family were unable to get out of the flat as their only exit, the front door, was blocked.
Greg Bolger describes the moment he saw the 13-year-old boy trapped behind security bars on the window.
He said: "He was actually screaming for help through the bars. It was actually very, very frightening.
"I don't think I'll ever forget his wee face and that's being absolutely honest with you, it was absolutely horrible."
Investigating Gardaí have asked anyone who was in the vicinity of Tyrone place between 10.30pm and 12 midnight on Monday to contact them at Kilmainham Garda Station on 01- 666 9700, the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666 111 or any Garda Station.
