Nearly 50 people trafficked into Ireland last year

48 people were reported as victims of human trafficking in Ireland last year.

That's according to new figures released by the Justice Minister Alan Shatter. They included 39 cases of sexual exploitation and 6 cases of labour exploitation.

23 of the victims were minors.

Minister Alan Shatter has described the offences as "an appalling crime and a gross violation of human rights."
