N-plates to be introduced for drivers who pass test

L-plates will be swapped with N-plates after passing the driving test

Learner drivers will have to swap their L-plates for N-plates once they pass their test.

That is according to the Irish Independent, which says laws due to take effect next summer will brand the newly qualified motorist a 'novice' driver for two years.

It is also reported that learners and novices could lose their licence if they clock up six penalty points, unlike more experienced drivers who can collect up to 12 before they are put off the road.
