Murphy: Taoiseach's treaty claim 'simply incorrect'

Last night's televised address by the Taoiseach on the EU Fiscal Treaty has been criticised by 'No' campaigners.

Socialist Party MEP Paul Murphy said that Enda Kenny's claim that a Yes vote would guarantee access to Europe's permanent rescue fund is "factually inaccurate".

Mr Murphy claims any country can veto another country's access to the bailout fund, whether they ratify the treaty or not.

"He argued that a Yes vote would give guaranteed access to funds from the European Stability Mechanism," he said.

"That's simply incorrect. The reality is that, even in the event of a Yes vote, any country can use a veto and block Ireland, or any other country, getting access to ESM funding."
