Murder trial jury shown CCTV footage

The jury in the trial of a teenager charged with murdering another teenager spent much of today re-watching CCTV footage of the chase that led to the death.

David Byrne was stabbed nine times, after being chased into a dead end at Emmet Court apartments in Inchicore, Dublin on the night of March 19, 2011.

Marcus Kirwan (aged 19), of Cooley Road, Drimnagh has pleaded not guilty to murdering 19-year-old Mr Byrne, who had lived at Davitt House, also in Drimnagh.

Garda Ciarán Byrne of Kevin Street Garda Station showed the Central Criminal Court jury about 45 minutes of CCTV footage from that night, captured by a number of cameras in Drimnagh and Inchicore.

A person was shown being chased by other people near St John Bosco Youth Centre in Drimnagh.

The chase was shown continuing across the Luas tracks to Inchicore around 10.40pm.

A person was then seen running into apartment complex, with another person running a few metres behind him.

They both disappeared off camera before a third and then a fourth person ran into the complex.

The third and fourth people then left the complex, followed by the second person.

The trial continues before Mr Justice Garrett Sheehan and a jury of seven men and five women.
