Murder inquiry into Sligo man's death

Gardaí have upgraded their investigation into the death of a man in Sligo to a murder inquiry.

Martin Kivlehan, aged 59, was found dead at his apartment on Holborn Street in the town at lunchtime yesterday.

Preliminary post mortem results have confirmed he died of stab wounds.

A man and a woman in their twenties were arrested earlier and are being held at Sligo Garda Station.

Harry Keaney, reporter at Ocean FM in Sligo, says Mr Kivlehan was a quiet, well-liked man.

"He was well-known as a musician, and also neighbours told me that he was a very good carpenter.

"It's a close-knit area in the Forthill area of Sligo, one of the oldest areas in the town," said Mr Keaney.

"The neighbours are absolutely shocked and they're particularly shocked that it would happen to somebody like Martin Kivlehan, who was described as an inoffensive man."
