Motorists are being warned to take extreme care if driving in the Wicklow Mountains tonight, following a number of minor road accidents due to snow.

Both the Wicklow Gap and the Sally Gap are both now impassable, and drivers should take alternative routes.

It's also snowing in Rathsallagh and Glencree, and in Sallins and Straffan in County Kildare.

Elsewhere, AA Roadwatch is reporting several small crashes in the Dublin Mountains - on Ticknock Hill in Sandyford, and also in Kiltiernan and Carrickmines.

Spokesperson Dan O'Neill says if you have to drive in snow, stick to main roads and most importantly, slow down.
