Motorists making their way to Electric Picnic today are being advised to allow plenty of time for their journey and to avoid using sat navs.

Outkast, Pet Shop Boys, Paolo Nutini, Blondie and many more will take to stage in Co. Laois this weekend as the much anticipated festival gets underway.

Those attending are being urged to bring wellies in case of scattered shower, but overall the weather is set to be dry with sunny spells.

41,000 people have purchased tickets to the sell out gig, 8,000 more than this time last year.

With such large crowds arriving at the venue this weekend Gardaí are puttting a major traffic management plan in place.
