Motion expressing concern over cuts to care allowance defeated
A private members motion expressing concern about cuts to the domiciliary care allowance and the effect on people with disabilities has been defeated in the Dáil by 81 votes to 41.
The Independent TD Catherine Murphy, who tabled the motion on behalf of the technical group, said there was evidence that children with autism or other intellectual disabilities were being targeted for payment reviews.
But the Social Protection Minister Joan Burton rejected this - she said that spending on the domiciliary care allowance had actually increased and an additional 3,000 children were granted the payment since 2009.
