A mother who is living in her car with three young children aged five, three and 18 months has been told she would have to wait nine years for social housing.
Sabrina McMahon moved back to Tallaght in south Dublin from Co Kildare after her relationship with the children's father broke down over a year ago.
She says she cannot find a landlord that accepts rent allowance and she can no longer rely on family and friends for accommodation.
Irish Times journalist Kitty Holland, who has covered Sabrina story, said: "She put herself on the social housing list for south Dublin County Council and was told she could be waiting up to nine years for social housing.
"So, she tried to source private rented accommodation and says she has been unable to find a landlord who will accept rent allowance.
"After a year of using up favours with friends and family she decided she had to stop (doing that) and is now homeless and she's living in her car with her three children."
