UCC has expressed its sympathy to the family of the two women who died in yesterday's road accident in Co Cork.
“University College Cork was deeply saddened to learn of the death of its student Louise Clancy and her mother Geraldine, who died in the tragic car accident in Kilworth, near Fermoy in Cork, yesterday,” said a UCC statement.
“UCC wishes to extend its sincere sympathy to Louise’s family and friends.
“The University flag will fly at half-mast in the Main Quadrangle today as a mark of respect.
“Ar dheis Dé go raibh a n-anamacha dílse.”
A mother and daughter who lost their lives in a road accident in Co Cork yesterday have been named locally.
Geraldine Clancy, 58, and her 22-year-old daughter Louise from Leitrim near Kilworth, died when their car and another car were in collision near Fermoy.
A student of University College Cork, aspiring journalist Louise Clancy was living in Brighton where she was spending a year studying English literature and sociology at the University of Sussex. She had returned to visit her family for Christmas.
The accident happened on the Fermoy to Ballyduff road around 11.30am yesterday morning.
The bodies of the women were taken to Cork University Hospital for a postmortem.
Investigations are continuing into the cause of a crash.
