More than 60 girls react badly to vaccine

The Irish Medicines Board has been notified of more than 60 adverse reactions to the cervical cancer vaccine used in the State immunisation programme.

Almost all of them have been in girls aged between 12 and 14.

The IMB said it is not concerned by the side effects, including headache, fatigue and fainting, saying it is exactly as expected on worldwide data.

About 45,000 doses of the HPV vaccine have been given out so far.
