More than 500 children missing from State care since 2000

Forty children have gone missing from State care since the beginning of the year.

The figure was revealed in a parliamentary question to the H-S-E.

Since the year 2000, 503 children put into accommodation have disappeared after being placed into care by the Department of Justice.

It is feared some of these children may have been coerced into prostitution.

Fine Gael spokesperson on immigration, Denis Naughten, said something needs to be done to protect these children.
