More talks needed to resolve Luas dispute, says Joan Burton

Labour TD Joan Burton is urging both sides in the Luas dispute to get back around the table for talks.

On Friday, tram drivers represented by Siptu staged a 12th day of industrial action over their demands for higher wages.

Further strike action is due to take place next week, with a four-hour stoppages planned for Thursday, followed by an all-out strike on Friday.

Luas operator Transdev said it will dock a full day's pay from drivers who engage in work stoppages.

Labour TD Joan Burton said that both sides need to re-engage and bring the dispute to an end.

"I hope the sooner the parties get down and talk," she said.

"I don't know if some of the mechanisms of industrial relations can be used further, but I hope they will be used, because Dublin needs good public transport, and we need the Luas, and I hope to see a return as soon as possible."
