Monet painting damaged in National Gallery


A valuable Monet painting has been damaged at the National Gallery of Ireland.

A member of the public is understood to have slashed 'Argenteuil Basin with a single Sailboat', which dates from 1874.

The damage has been described as "extensive" and is now being examined by restoration experts.

A garda investigation is underway. It is understood a man has been detained.
