The Minister of State for Tourism and Sport Patrick O'Donovan (pictured) has accused the opposition of trying to make political gains out of the Olympic tickets controversy.

It comes as two OCI officials prepare to give voluntary statements to police investigating alleged touting in Rio.

As work begins on the non-statutory inquiry into what the Olympic Council of Ireland did with its allocation of tickets for this summer’s games, two OCI officials are preparing to give voluntary statements to police in Rio.

Kevin Kilty and Stephen Martin have agreed to meet with detectives investigating the alleged illegal sale of tickets earmarked for the OCI.

The men aren’t under arrest and haven’t been accused of any wrongdoing.

Back home, opposition parties are continuing to criticise the Government for not establishing a full commission of investigation that could compel people to take part.

But Minister of State for Tourism & Sport Patrick O’Donovan has accused them of using the controversy as a political football.

Retired High Court judge Mr. Justice Carroll Moran is leading the inquiry. His work began today and he’s been given 12 weeks to complete his report with the option of an extension if required.
