The Minister for Transport Seamus Brennan will today announce details of the Christmas anti-drink driving campaign in conjunction with the National Safety Council.

The Minister for Transport Seamus Brennan will today announce details of the Christmas anti-drink driving campaign in conjunction with the National Safety Council.

Yesterday, Minister Brennan confirmed that gardaí will be given new powers to breathalyse drivers whom they suspect of committing motoring offences.

The Minister says the Irish attitude to drinking and driving is one of the worst in the world.

The percentage of accidents here that are drink related is about 40%, compared to the rest of Europe, which has an average of 30%.
