Minister for Transport has his say on the Luas strikes

The Minister for Transport has said that indefinite Luas strikes are 'not acceptable'.

Pascal Donohoe was responding to claims from the Luas drivers' union SIPTU, which has said it can not rule out an 'all-out' strike.

More industrial action looks inevitable after members rejected a pay deal yesterday; offering rises of almost 19%.

It means there will be no trams in Dublin on Easter Sunday and Monday.

But Minister Donohoe has said that needs to change: “The prospect of indefinite strikes into the future, is not acceptable.

“For me the priority now is the commemorative period, and the uniqueness of this period is understood I know by everyone in the trade union movement and they need to reflect on that and lead to the reinstatement of these services.”
