Minister for Health asked to clarify legal status of e-cigarettes

Government Chief Whip Paul Kehoe has written to the Minister for Health to clarify the health implications and legal status of electronic cigarettes.

Kehoe said the advertising of the e-cigarettes has become a cause for concern.

Last month the World Health Organisation advised against using the products, saying the risks they pose for the health of users has not been determined.

The WHO also said that the efficacy of e-cigarettes to help people quit smoking has not been scientifically demonstrated.
