Minister expresses confidence in Dublin Airport security

13/04/2005 - 13:12:13
Tourism Minister John O'Donoghue has expressed confidence in security at Dublin Airport, despite a number of lapses uncovered by EU inspectors.

The inspectors managed to smuggle knives and a replica bomb past security checks at the airport during an audit this week.

"I know of very few airports in the world which could be more cast-iron or categoric in its guarantee in relation to safety than Dublin Airport," Mr O'Donoghue said.

"You will have incidents which occur unfortunately, but overall, the truth is that Dublin Airport is one of the safest airports in the world."

Ryanair has also echoed the minister's comments, saying security procedures at Dublin are among the best in Europe and compare favourably with every other airport the airline operates out of.
