The funeral of Irish actor Mick Lally will take place this afternoon in Dublin.
The star, who was best known for his role as Miley in 'Glenroe', had been fighting emphysema and passed away on Tuesday after a short stay in hospital.
The death of the 64-year-old came as a shock to the acting community and the general population who knew Mick Lally as a household name from his years of playing Miley Byrne in 'Glenroe' and before that his role alongside Gabriel Byrne in 'Bracken'.
Mick Lally was born in Tourmackeady in County Mayo - he began his career as a school teacher, but later moved into acting when he was co-founder of the Druid theatre company.
This led to work on television which made him a household name.
In the last years of his life he had moved back into theatre work and earlier this year starred alongside Mary McEvoy, who played Biddy in 'Glenroe', to perform 'The Matchmaker', in Dublin's Tivoli Theatre.
Mick Lally is survived by his wife Peggy, their three children and his parents.
His funeral will take place at Newlands Cross cremetoriam chapel at 2pm this afternoon.
