Micheál Martin has accused the Government of panicking following double murder in Dublin
The Fianna Fáil Leader has said the Government is panicking in dealing with the problem of organised crime in Dublin.
Micheál Martin was responding to the apparent u-turn by the Garda Commissioner on the issue of resources within the force.
On Monday, Commissioner Noirin O'Sullivan said resources were not a problem for the Gardaí in tackling crime while yesterday she re-assigned 55 members of the force to tackle the problem.
Speaking at the Irish Farmers' HQ in Dublin today, Micheál Martin said the Government has no long term plan to tackle crime.
“It is extraordinary in one 36 hours we are told resources are not an issue and the following day, €5m is released," he said.
“It is a sign of panic from the Government’s side and it is a classic sign of the hallmark of this Government that has allowed problems to escalate to crisis levels before they react and before they promise.”
