The Finance Minister Michael Noonan says there is no prospect at all of an early election.
Mr Noonan was responding to claims from some backbenchers who believed an early election might still be likely in the wake of today's Budget.
The minister last week said there were "two windows" for an election, which could be held either before or after Christmas.
However, this evening Mr Noonan said today's announcements would not be the trigger for an early vote.
He said: "The Taoiseach closed the window in his interview on Sunday. You can be absolutely certain that there is no election between now and Christmas.
"Both Brendan and I have a lot of work to do, I have the Finance Bill which won’t conclude in the Senate until the first week in December."
