Truck drivers may boycott M50 tolls

25/08/2008 - 11:31:07
Truck drivers may boycott the payment of M50 tolls when barrier free tolling is introduced from this Saturday.

The Irish Road Haulage Association has said the fee for truck drivers, which is over €6 per trip, will put extreme pressure on people in the industry.

Drivers will also lose their 15% bulk discount under the new scheme.

President of the Association, Jimmy Quinn, has said trucks should be exempt from the charges because they have no alternative routes open to them.

"We have paid for the M50 West-Link once and we do not want to pay for it a second time," he said.
