Over 100,000 patients treated under NTPF scheme
The National Treatment Purchase Fund says it has secured private treatment for more than 100,000 public hospital patients since its establishment five years ago.
The organisation was established by the Government in 2002 to buy treatment in private facilities for patients languishing on public waiting lists.
It said today that a woman from Co Offaly became the 100,000th person to benefit from the fund when she was sent for private surgery in January after six months on the public waiting list.
The NTPF says it has reduced waiting times for routine procedures to an average of between two to five months, compared to between two and five years in 2002.
