ESB unions threaten strike action over station closures

05/06/2007 - 07:51:18
More than 6,000 ESB workers could be set to mount strike action within a month due to the planned closure of power stations.

The ESB has agreed to close a number of stations as part of a deal to reduce its share of the Irish energy market.

Reports this morning say union sources are warning of possible strike action when company management tells the board which stations it believes should be shut.

That decision will have to be made in the coming weeks, but unions say it has not been agreed with the workforce and will be bad for both the ESB and for Ireland in general.
