Govt aims for 100% broadband coverage by end of 2009
24/06/2008 - 07:38:51The Government is reportedly planning to ensure that every part of Ireland enjoys broadband coverage by the end of next year.
Reports this morning say a new strategy due to be published by Communications Minister Eamon Ryan also aims to ensure that Ireland's broadband speeds will be among the highest in Europe within the next four years.
At present, Ireland's broadband penetration lags behind the OECD average.
The speeds available are also considerably lower than those in other developed countries, while the prices charged for the service are considerably higher.
