Met Éireann forecasts gusts of 130km/hr for tomorrow

Met Éireann says we should be prepared for severe winds around the country overnight.

A yellow weather warning is currently in place, and conditions will deteriorate from 6am tomorrow morning with winds expected to reach 130 kilometres per hour.

There is also a Status Yellow rainfall warning for counties Donegal, Galway, Mayo, Sligo, Clare and Kerry where rainfall of up to 50 millimetres is likely.

Meteorologist David Rogers said: "Tomorrow morning for several hours and into the early part of the afternoon, there will be even stronger westerly winds which will reach into the Orange Level warning.

"This means that we can expect winds for several hours reaching up to between 100 and 130 kilometres per hour."

Limerick City and County Council have advised the public to avoid travel where necessary in the period up to and including Sunday night.

They said: "It is important that members of the public pay attention to Met Éireann's advisory as this weather system has the potential to deliver very strong winds to Limerick for a period during Saturday night and Sunday morning in particular.

"Members of the public are advised to stay away from rivers and other water bodies. The Council is on full alert and will respond to emergencies as they arise or as it is safe to do so."
