A member of India's ruling party is demanding Ireland change its laws on abortion.

The call comes following the death of Savita Halappanavar who died at University Hospital Galway last month - from septicaemia - after suffering a miscarriage.

A vigil was held in Bangalore, the hometown of Savita in India this evening while in Dublin the Tánaiste, Eamon Gilmore met with the Indian Ambassador to Ireland to discuss the death of the 31-year-old dentist.
